Pre-Activation Preparation
Before beginning the activation process, ensure you have:
- Your new Verizon phone (fully charged)
- Your Verizon account information and PIN
- SIM card (if required)
- A strong internet connection
- Your old phone (if transferring service)

Data Backup and Transfer
Before activating your new device:
- Use Verizon Cloud to back up contacts, photos, and important data (Verizon Cloud)
- Consider using Samsung Smart Switch or Apple's iCloud depending on your device type
- Ensure all important information is safely stored
Activation Methods
1. Online Activation
- Visit Verizon's Activation Page
- Sign in to your Verizon account
- Select "Activate or Switch Device"
- Enter your device information (IMEI/MEID and SIM card number)
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete activation
2. Phone Activation
Two options are available:
- Dial
*228
and press1
when prompted (for older devices) - Call (877) 807-4646 from another phone and follow the automated instructions
Note: 4G LTE and 5G phones typically don't require dialing *228 and will activate automatically when turned on.
3. My Verizon App Activation
- Download the My Verizon app from the App Store or Google Play Store
- Log in to your account
- Select "Activate or switch devices"
- Follow the in-app instructions
Special Device Considerations
eSIM Devices
- Go to Settings
- Select Cellular or Mobile Data
- Add eSIM
- Scan the Verizon-provided QR code
5G Devices
Ensure you:
- Are in a 5G coverage area
- Have a plan with 5G access
- Have updated device software
Testing and Verification
After activation, verify that:
- You can make and receive calls
- Text messaging works properly
- Internet connectivity is functioning
- Voicemail is configured
- Wi-Fi calling is set up (if desired)
Troubleshooting Tips
If you encounter issues:
- Restart your phone
- Check for software updates
- Verify SIM card placement
- Clear browser cache if activating online
- Ensure account is in good standing
